We gather here today with heavy hearts, yet with gratitude to God, to celebrate the life of Salome Kemuma — a woman of resilience, diligence, and deep love for her family and community.
Salome Kemuma was born in 1972 to Alexinah Kemunto and Michael Mokamba Chiba. From an early age, she showed determination and discipline. She attended Emesa primary school and successfully completed her primary education, after which she joined Nyamesocho Secondary School from 1986 to 1990, where she completed her secondary education.
After secondary school, Salome pursued further training and joined Nyanchwa Adventist College, where she studied Clothing and Textile. This skill became more than a profession; it became her lifelong calling and a means through which she served and uplifted others.
Salome later got married to Haron Kibwage Matundura, and together they were blessed with four children, whom she loved deeply and raised with great sacrifice and dedication:
- Vincent Eliezer
- John Matundura
- Clinton Magati
- Dorothy Nyanchama
Salome took immense pride in her children and worked tirelessly to ensure they were guided by education, discipline, and strong values.
She came from a large and close-knit family. Salome had six brothers and one sister: Henry, Silvester (USA), Abuga (USA), Hezron, Philip, Moses, and Mary. To her siblings, she was a loving sister and a pillar of support. She was also an aunt, cousin, friend, and mentor to many whose lives she touched in lasting ways.
Professionally, Salome was a dedicated tailor. She was employed as a professional tailor at EPZ Nairobi until 2007. She later relocated to Kisii, where she started her own tailoring business in Gesusu town. Through determination and hard work, she expanded to Keroka, where she opened a tailoring school. Through this school, Salome empowered many people with practical skills, self-reliance, and hope for a better future.
Later in life, Salome became unwell and was transferred to Nakuru Medical, where she was diagnosed with spinal compression and nerve complications. This condition affected her muscles, speech, and mobility. Despite these challenges, she remained strong and hopeful.
She was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she underwent several tests and was placed on medication for three months. Although she could not return for further review, the medication brought visible improvement and relief, renewing the family’s hope.
Sadly, on the 19th, after developing complications, Salome was taken to hospital. Between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm, she passed on peacefully.
As a family, we thank God for the life of Salome Kemuma and for the time we were blessed to have with her. We sincerely thank everyone who stood with us during her illness — those who visited, prayed, and supported us financially and emotionally. May God bless you abundantly.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the life Salome lived — a life of purpose, service, and love. Her legacy lives on through her children, her family, and the many lives she impacted.
Rest in peace, Salome Kemuma. Mother, Aunt, Sister, Daughter and Friend.
Your labor was not in vain.
